Jane Puckey Original Paintings

Jane is self-taught and paints in acrylics on high quality Museum canvases.  Her attention to detail has an almost photographic quality, with each painting taking between two to five weeks to paint. Jane remembers the sense of being present with whatever she is painting and this aliveness comes through in her work.

The majority of Jane’s work consists of coastal scenes, reflecting her love of the sea, Pohutukawas, beaches and headlands. She thinks that it is one of the privileges of painting that one has to wander around beaches taking photos from all perspectives to fully absorb the beauty one sees and visualise it in painting form for future canvases. The warm land tones combined with the ever-changing blues and greens of the sea produce a sense of summer joy and lightness in her work, especially when combined with Pohutukawa (Jane’s favourite tree).
