This print depicts Lion Rock at Piha beach - an iconic landmark. Lion Rock sits between Piha and North Piha beaches, offering anyone who climbs it amazing views in all directions.

To Te Kawerau, Lion Rock was known as Te Piha, which is what the beach is now named. Te Piha referred to the patterns of waves separating and breaking on the front of the rock, like on the prow of a canoe.

An array of Pohutukawa flowers sits above Mita Bay - at Mahurangi West - with the headland of Big Bay and Saddle island (Te Haupa island) in the distance. This poem by Rumi seemed a fitting state of mind and heart as I was there on this day in this place. "What a day today. There are two Suns rising! What a day, Not like any other day. Look! The Light is shining in your heart, The wheel of Life has stopped. Oh, you who can see into your own heart, What a day, This is your day." — Rumi • Limited edition of 200 hand signed fine-art prints • Original painting 1040x790mm sold... [view details]

This print of my most recent painting looks down onto Hahei beach and over to Te Pare Point with the Alderman islands in the distance. The serenity of this place, of places like this on a hot summer's day beckon the viewer to visit. I certainly want to go back to Hahei, it's been a while...

This work can simply be seen as a successful day out fishing, and there is so much life in this work. I painted the original painting in 2001 utilising a water colour technique I developed, on paper. Looking at this work now I imagine I was drawn to paint these fish because of their colour, the composition and the light. I also grew up with many boating holidays and love fish for dinner :-)

Open edition prints of this work  can be printed on both paper and canvas and the original is also available for purchase via my paintings page.

Mimiwhangata - is a place of great spiritual presence and exceptional beauty. This print captures a view looking down towards Mimiwhangata and Rimariki island. Fortunately Mimiwhangata is also part of a 2,000 hectare Department of Conservation park which is surrounded by a marine reserve, and spans a peninsula with golden Mimiwhangata Bay on one side and sandy coves between little rocky headlands on the other. Its beaches and dunes harbor safe nesting sites for threatened shorebirds, whilst on the rocky cliffs grow large pōhutukawa and Kōwhai trees, which attract tūī when flowering. Substant... Te Hauturu-o-Toi (the official Māori title for Little Barrier Island). Little Barrier is depicted in the far left of this print. Te Hauturu-o-Toi means "the resting place of lingering breezes", a title which captured my attention, both as a very fitting description of the beautiful land I was studying to paint, along with my felt sense while painting this work. I worked on this painting for six months, carefully considering detail, and the varying tones of lightness or darkness in every colour to create distance and balance within this composition. In this painting see if you can f... [view details]

This large work (of 210+ painting hours) depicts an amazing view from the lookout on the very beautiful Roberton island (or Motuarohia island) one of the many stunning spots in the Bay of Islands - in New Zealand's north island. I named this work after the lovely song "Summertime", and also my memories growing up in Paihia exploring the many islands nearby - Roberton being one of them. The left hand side of this print looks up Te Rawhiti inlet towards the main land at Rawhiti in the distance, the distant land on the right hand side directs the eye towards the gorgeous Pareanui an...
