This print depicts the beautiful Ponui Island located to the southeast of Waiheke Island, at the eastern end of the Tamaki Strait (which separates the island from the Hunua Ranges on the mainland to the south). The rocks on the lower part of the painting show different aspects of light on form, light on form and water being my focus in my work for the original painting.

In the late afternoon at the beach looking through the silhouette of a Pohutukawa tree up into the aether or quintessence (a medium which fills the space of the universe above the earthly sphere). Mimiwhangata - is a place of great spiritual presence and exceptional beauty. This print captures a view looking down towards Mimiwhangata and Rimariki island. Fortunately Mimiwhangata is also part of a 2,000 hectare Department of Conservation park which is surrounded by a marine reserve, and spans a peninsula with golden Mimiwhangata Bay on one side and sandy coves between little rocky headlands on the other. Te Hauturu-o-Toi (the official Māori title for Little Barrier Island). Little Barrier is depicted in the far left of this print. Te Hauturu-o-Toi means "the resting place of lingering breezes", a title which captured my attention, both as a very fitting description of the beautiful land I was studying to paint, along with my felt sense while painting this work. This large work (of 210+ painting hours) depicts an amazing view from the lookout on the very beautiful Roberton island (or Motuarohia island) one of the many stunning spots in the Bay of Islands - in New Zealand's north island. I named this work after the lovely song "Summertime", and also my memories growing up in Paihia exploring the many islands nearby - Roberton being one of them. This painting/print views Browns island and Rangitoto island from east Auckland - looking out across the Tamaki strait. The Tamaki Strait is one of several passes between the islands of the inner Hauraki Gulf, near the entrance of Waitematā Harbour just off Auckland city (in New Zealand). This stretch of water separates the North Island (mainland) from Waiheke Island, east of Auckland city.
